Connection, one letter at a time / 01
Handwritten kindness. Real connection.
A letter can make someone's day.
A few thoughtful words can mean more than you imagine. Letters Across Generations brings young volunteers and older adults together through handwritten notes, encouragement, and shared stories. Write from home or join a group writing session, and help remind someone that they are remembered.

The meaning behind the message
Letters Across Generations / 02
Small gestures.
Lasting connection.
A handwritten letter is something someone can hold, reread, and keep.
For older adults, a personal note can offer a welcome moment of connection. For student volunteers, writing becomes a chance to practice empathy, share encouragement, and connect with another generation without needing to be in the same room.

Not sure what to say?
Try beginning with “I hope you're having a wonderful day,” sharing a little about something you enjoy, or asking a thoughtful question about a favorite tradition or memory. Keep your message warm, respectful, and easy to read. Avoid sharing personal contact information or anything you'd want to keep private.
