Our story / Why we exist

We believe generations should know one another.

Young people and older adults can live in the same community without many chances to know one another. Generations Together creates those opportunities through shared experiences, practical service, and programs shaped with the people and organizations we serve.

Our beginning / 2025

Started by students.
Built with others.

Generations Together began in 2025 with students organizing opportunities to spend time and work alongside older adults. Our first partnerships gave that effort direction: listen to what residents and community organizations needed, then bring students together to help meet those needs.

Early service events grew into letters, technology education, community care, and youth research. The programs have expanded, but collaboration with local partners still shapes what we organize and how we follow through.

One idea / Shared responsibility

The principles behind our programs

How we work.

Every project involves decisions about what people need, who helps shape the response, and what happens after volunteers show up. These are the commitments behind our work.

01 / Understand the need

Ask what’s needed.

We listen to older adults and community partners before planning projects. Their priorities help determine the supplies we collect, the activities we prepare, and the support we provide.

02 / Share the planning

Build it together.

Students bring time and ideas; partner organizations know the people they serve. Planning together helps us create programs that fit real schedules, spaces, and community needs.

03 / Carry it through

Follow through.

A collection needs delivery, a visit needs coordination, and a recurring program depends on people returning. We take responsibility for the details that turn an activity into useful support.

A brief history

From one idea to a growing community.

2025 Summer

Where it began.

Generations Together began with one question: how could students build meaningful, lasting connections with older adults through service, conversation, and community care?

2025 Fall

Our first community partner.

An early partnership with a senior community turned that idea into action. Through set-up, service, and shared time together, we began building our work alongside older adults and local organizations.

2025 Winter

Letters Across Generations launched.

Letters Across Generations created a simple but meaningful way for students and older adults to connect through handwritten notes, encouragement, and shared stories.

2026 Spring

Youth voices take shape.

Through our first speaker showcase and student presentations, young people began leading conversations, sharing ideas, and creating new forms of intergenerational connection.

2026 Summer

Our work expands.

New partnerships, collection drives, recurring programs, and student-led initiatives broadened what Generations Together could offer and deepened its roots in the community.

What’s Next?

A community built to keep growing.

We continue to grow long-term programs that invite students, older adults, and community partners to shape what comes next together.

Help shape what comes next.

Since our first community event, students and local partners have turned individual efforts into ongoing programs. There's more to do, and more ways to take part, from volunteering at an event to helping lead an initiative.
