Build Something That Matters: Join the Generations Together Internship

Looking for an internship where your work actually reaches people? The Generations Together Community Engagement Internship gives young people the chance to help shape projects that support older adults and strengthen connections across generations.

Interns help conduct and preserve senior interviews, build our digital archive, document community impact, research issues affecting older adults, develop new volunteer initiatives, and support outreach with community partners. You’ll leave with real work you can point to, stories you helped preserve, and projects you helped bring to life.

What You’ll Do

As a Community Engagement Intern, you’ll help build the work behind Generations Together through several areas of involvement.

Senior Interviews & Storytelling
Interview older adults, preserve their stories, and help turn conversations into written profiles and features.

The Generations Together Archive
Document projects, photos, statistics, volunteer reflections, partner highlights, and community stories so our work is preserved over time.

Project Development
Help brainstorm and build new volunteer opportunities, activities, drives, and intergenerational initiatives.

Community Research
Research issues affecting older adults and help develop articles, research briefs, resources, or future project ideas.

Partner & Community Outreach
Research senior-serving organizations, identify potential partners, and support outreach for future collaborations.

Impact Documentation
Track the people reached, volunteers involved, items collected, stories gathered, and outcomes created through our projects.

Volunteer & Community Stories
Interview volunteers and community members and help share the people and experiences behind our work.

Communications
Turn real projects into website updates, archive entries, graphics, newsletters, and other materials that tell the story of our impact.

  • Published work. Real community experience. Stories you helped preserve. Projects you helped build. Stronger research, writing, interviewing, outreach, and leadership skills. And a body of work you can actually point to when the internship ends.

  • Every intern contributes to our shared work, but you’ll also have room to lean into what interests you most: storytelling and interviewing, community research, project development, partnerships and outreach, communications, or impact documentation.

  • The interview you conduct may become part of our Archive. The project you design may become a volunteer opportunity. The organization you research may become a future partner. The story you write may introduce hundreds of people to someone they otherwise never would have known. We want every intern to leave something behind.

  • Curious high schoolers who care about their communities, communicate reliably, take initiative, and are willing to listen. Experience is welcome, but you do not need to arrive knowing how to interview someone, conduct community research, or develop a project. We’ll help you learn.
