We envision communities where aging does not mean being forgotten and where people of every generation recognize their ability to care for one another.
Generations Together brings volunteers, schools, community groups, and senior-serving organizations together to make meaningful service more accessible. By connecting people who want to help with organizations already serving older adults, we strengthen the networks of care that allow communities to support their seniors.
Who we are
Generations Together is a youth-led nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening support for older adults through volunteerism, community partnership, and intergenerational connection.
Rather than operating as a direct senior-care provider, we work alongside senior centers, care communities, nonprofit organizations, schools, and other community partners to identify needs and mobilize volunteers to help meet them.
Our growing network includes more than 180 volunteers of different ages and backgrounds, including students connected through clubs and organizations at schools across Arizona. And we are always looking for more individuals, groups, and communities to join us.
Why we exist
Older adults can face challenges including loneliness, limited mobility, the digital divide, financial hardship, and reduced access to community support.
At the same time, many people, especially young people, want to serve their communities but do not always know where their help is most needed or how to get involved meaningfully.
Generations Together helps bridge that gap.
We connect willing volunteers with projects, organizations, and community initiatives serving older adults so that existing organizations can reach more people, carry out more projects, and strengthen the support they already provide.
Our mission statement
Our mission is to strengthen the quality of life and community support available to older adults by mobilizing volunteers, fostering intergenerational connection, and partnering with organizations that serve senior communities.
Through youth-led service and community collaboration, we aim to reduce isolation, bridge generational divides, and build a culture in which caring for older generations is a shared responsibility.
❋ Supporting senior-serving organizations
We recruit and organize volunteers to assist senior centers, care communities, nonprofits, and other organizations with projects, events, outreach, and community initiatives.
❋ Creating opportunities for intergenerational connection
Through partner-led events, storytelling projects, activities, and other initiatives, volunteers have opportunities to learn from and connect with older generations.
❋ Helping bridge the digital divide
When requested by participating organizations, volunteers may support technology education or digital-literacy projects designed to help older adults feel more comfortable using everyday technology.
❋ Organizing donations and community resources
We coordinate donation drives, care packages, handmade contributions, and other material-support projects based on needs identified by senior-serving organizations and community partners.
❋ Mobilizing volunteers for community events
Generations Together helps bring volunteers to events and service projects where additional people, time, or support can make a meaningful difference.
Create accessible volunteer opportunities
We provide volunteers with meaningful ways to contribute through in-person events, at-home projects, creative work, organizational support, outreach, and other forms of service.
Build a network of people ready to serve
Our volunteers include students, adults, school clubs, community groups, and individuals who share a desire to support older generations.
By bringing these volunteers together, we can offer community partners something difficult for any one person to provide: a dependable network of people ready to help.
Partner with organizations already serving seniors
We collaborate with senior centers, nonprofit organizations, care communities, schools, and other groups to understand where volunteer support can be most useful.
Our goal is not to replace the organizations already doing this work. It is to strengthen them.
Encourage intergenerational understanding
Whenever our projects bring generations together, we want those interactions to go beyond completing volunteer hours.
Older adults carry decades of memories, knowledge, experiences, and stories. Creating opportunities for generations to meet allows younger volunteers to listen, learn, and better understand the people who helped shape the communities they now inherit.
Dignity
We believe every senior deserves to be treated with respect, patience, and care. Aging should never mean being overlooked, rushed, or undervalued. In every interaction, we prioritize honoring seniors’ experiences, voices, and independence.
Community
Strong communities are built when generations support one another. We believe care should be local, personal, and shared. Through collaboration with families, volunteers, and community partners, we work to create environments where seniors feel supported and youth feel connected to something larger than themselves.
Youth Leadership
We trust young people to lead with responsibility and compassion. By empowering youth to serve seniors directly, we cultivate empathy, accountability, and a lifelong commitment to community service. Leadership at Generations Together means showing up, listening, and caring.
Connection
Genuine human connection is at the heart of our mission. We focus on building meaningful relationships through consistent presence, shared time, and honest conversation. These connections help reduce loneliness and foster understanding across generations.
